If pride is a sin, then we may be guilty of such when we believe we are the only intelligent life form in the vastness of the universe. We may be equally guilty if we assume we are capable of understanding God’s plan or purpose for us.
Perhaps the ultimate arrogance is to believe that a creator of the universe would build such an enormous and complex system exclusively for the human race.
We might be closer to understanding if we accept the fact that we incapable of comprehending the design and enormity of a universe of which we are the slightest and most insignificant element. As science delves deeper and deeper into the mysteries of the universe, more questions surface than answers.
We also need to accept the fact that, just because the Bible doesn’t address an issue, doesn’t mean that the issue is false.
Perhaps the most persistent question in modern times is whether other intelligent beings exist in the universe, and whether or not they visit this earth.
And perhaps the answers lie within the questions themselves.
Our knowledge of the history of the human race shows that humans can’t seem to co-exist without conflict. Battles over territory, property, food and control over other humans have been fought for centuries. The downside of free will is the ability to covet.
If we apply our logic filter to the question of whether or not other intelligent species exist in the universe, we might recognize that the vastness of the universe makes sense. Since we can’t seem to get along with members of our own species, what better way to prevent conflict with alien species than to make it virtually impossible for us to have contact with them.
Perhaps God’s plan is simply to keep us apart.
To those who would argue that “evidence” suggests that we have been visited by alien craft, the answer may be equally simple.
If, in fact, there are other intelligent life forms in the universe, the idea that they are capable of breaching the barriers of space travel would suggest that they are technologically more advanced than earth science. If so, perhaps they have also conquered the impulse claim dominance over others.
Perhaps technological achievement and social achievement go hand-in-hand.
If we are not alone in the universe, perhaps it is because God’s plan is to keep us apart until the human species learns and applies the lesson of peaceful harmony.
