The True Law of Attraction

For some time, there has been a philosophy floating around that wishful thinking creates a flow of energy that will fulfill your dreams. Such thinking is equal parts incredibly insightful and incredibly naive. Yes, a positive attitude can certainly have an impact on your ability to succeed at accomplishing your goals, but it isn’t magic, and it can easily be linked to effective behavior modification. So, in a sense, the new, more confident and efficient you can attract more opportunities. So, that Law of Attraction has a definable cause and effect factor.

But, a much more powerful Law of Attraction exists, and it contributes a powerful message about the validity of God and Christianity.

For many centuries, the Christian religion was a major force in society. Even royalty fashioned their behavior on the guidelines of “the church.” Science was almost a hobby, and those who espoused evidence of scientific thought were often on a fatal collision course with church officials whenever science appeared to be in conflict with church doctrine. In truth, the church was as much, if not more, a political agency than a faith organization. Still, the general population was inexorably ruled by religious tenets and superstition.

In our current age, it seems like the tables have been turned. While the church is still enormously influential, science has taken center stage. The power of scientific inquiry, math, and logic has become the standard to which church teachings are compared. But that use of logic works both ways.

Here’s where that Law of Attraction comes in.

The mechanics of the universe are heavily dependent on the force of gravity, the attraction of the heavenly bodies toward each other. We know our earth is in orbit around the sun whose gravitational pull defines that orbit. Likewise, we know that our moon’s orbit around the earth is determined by the gravitational attraction of the earth. Finally, we all know the force of gravity on our bodies when we take a fall or ski down that slope.

Gravity is the ultimate law of attraction, but what is the source of that power? That is where our faith fills in the blanks.

Our science can measure the effect of gravity. Our math can calculate the impact of gravity in calculating the trajectory of spacecraft sent to distant points of our solar system. Our engineers can design structures and devices to compensate for the effects of gravity.

What is missing from all these calculations and accommodations is the “why.” Why is one heavenly body attracted to another? Why does our earth have such a pull on our relatively tiny bodies?

Armed with their calculators, mathematical formulas, and astronomical observations, our scientific community has postulated that the mass of these heavenly bodies somehow “distorts” the fabric of space-time, which looks good on a graphic image, but comes up short when it is unpacked.

The truth is that our scientific community is unable to explain why gravity works as it does. It is another example of the inexplicably complex mix of forces that define our existence. It is another example of the stumbling block we encounter when we try to explain the forces of nature as just another accident of our existence.

Once again, we must concede that the concept of intelligent design and the powers of a Creator are the logical missing pieces to another puzzle of our existence.

Perhaps the true power of attraction is simply the will of God.
